Instructions:

Task:
1. Conduct or supervise system-level automotive testing for vehicles (e.g., safety features, signals, etc.) to ensure safe operation before dispatch.
2. Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections to identify mechanical problems that require repair and document them on a work order for submission.
3. Maintain passenger vehicles, trucks, small-wheeled tractors, and other automotive equipment by performing minor adjustments and repairs.
4. Monitor and evaluate work practices and conditions to ensure that all equipment, tools, materials, and working conditions are compliant.
5. Load, unload, and deliver items (e.g., laundry, food, furniture, etc.) using proper truck dollies, freight carts, transit wheels, and other carts.
6. Maintain and track maintenance records and work orders to track usage, fuel, purchases, and credit cards.
7. Oversee vehicle maintenance to ensure all vehicles are washed and cleaned.
8. Create purchase orders and contracts documentation for management review.
9. Assist with contractual agreements for the purchase of equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies.
10. Comply with CalOSHA guidelines when performing general manual labor (e.g., lifting, carrying, loading, etc.) to complete job-related tasks.
11. Provide job-specific and safety training to various staff members.
12. Schedule the delivery of property items to ensure that they are transported safely and on time by confirming the day/time.
13. Monitor equipment usage and accountability to ensure that fire extinguishers and safety equipment are always present and operational.
14. Prepare budget requests for automotive equipment based on previous data and existing contracts.
15. In a lead capacity, oversee the work of staff and assistants to ensure that assignments are completed by observing and providing feedback.
16. In a lead capacity, oversee staff in the operation of fleet, tractor, and motor equipment in accordance with CalOHSA policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment.
17. Train other staff to complete daily assignments accurately by utilizing various resources (i.e. policies/procedures, rules, regulations, vehicle codes, etc).
18. Give staff advice on how to handle difficult or complex problems, as well as how to resolve escalated complaints or disputes.
Knowledge, Skill, or Ability:
1. Knowledge of automotive service requirements of an institutional type organization to ensure compliance.
2. Knowledge of operation and care to use and maintain various kinds of automotive equipment.
3. Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures of automotive equipment to maximize the use of that equipment.
4. Knowledge of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, concise, with minimal errors.
5. Knowledge of laws and rules relating to vehicle operation to ensure compliance.
6. Knowledge of the organization and operation of a motor pool to ensure safety and efficiency.
7. Knowledge of the procurement process to maintain proper inventory levels of supplies and equipment.
8. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in priorities/ job duties as needed to complete work assignments and projects.
9. Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely in writing to various levels of audiences.
10. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in mechanical operations and concepts.
