Tasks:
1: Assist patients, staff, and other facilities in locating legal access and recreational/educational materials/articles.
2: Provide research materials (e.g., books, magazines, law library, etc.) to assist patients and staff with case work/projects.
3: Catalog and classify library materials (e.g., books, pamphlets, audiovisual software, etc.) to provide ease of access for patients and staff.
4: Order materials and supplies (e.g., journals, books, databases, newspapers, etc.) to fulfill library needs.
5: Determine proper procurement process (e.g., quotes, multiple bids, purchasing limits, etc.) to obtain additional library materials and services.
6: Perform clerical duties (e.g., typing, filing, answering the phone, photocopying, etc.) as necessary to maintain library operation.
7: Assist library patrons in basic computer skills to search computerized databases (e.g., legal, educational/ recreational).
8: Determine additional library services to ensure facility needs are fulfilled by collaborating with administration and program management.
9: Maintain accurate circulation and records to ensure proper documentation and to track library activities as appropriate.
10: Maintain archival journals and publications by shelving, storing, and securing materials for historical and research purposes.
11: Remind patients and staff to return borrowed or overdue library materials in a timely manner.
12: Evaluate library materials to ensure collection is relevant and current by cataloging and reviewing inventory details (e.g., condition, age, etc.).
Knowledge, Skill, or Ability:
1: Knowledge of professional library work to provide library services.
2: Knowledge of modern library methods, cataloging systems and terminology for efficient operation of library.
3: Knowledge of standard library reference materials to assist users with research.
4: Knowledge of quality assurance standards to maintain and update library services systems (e.g., cataloging, loaning).
5: Knowledge of computer software and databases used for research.
6: Knowledge of the practical problems of library services (e.g. missing inventory, damaged property, etc.) and how to resolve them.
7: Knowledge of computerized card catalog systems to locate reading materials.
8: Knowledge of bibliographic terminology to efficiently apply search techniques.
9: Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
10: Ability to adapt to changes in priorities, work assignments, and other issues that may impact pre-established courses of action for completing assignments.
11: Ability to evaluate the work of professional and clerical Library Services personnel to ensure goals and objectives are met.
