Components that are due with your application will be scored and will count toward your final examination result. Failure to submit these items may result in disqualification or elimination from the examination.
A final score of 70% must be attained to be placed on the eligible list.

PLEASE NOTE: This examination is designed to gain an overall assessment of your education, training, and experience as it directly relates to the duties and the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position. All components of this examination have been carefully validated by tying them directly to job requirements and documenting their relevance to the position.

In addition to evaluating the applicant's relative knowledge, skill and ability as demonstrated by quality and breadth of education/experience, emphasis in each test component will be on measuring competitively, relative to job demands, each applicant's:
A. Knowledge of:
1. Customary hearing procedures.
2. Word knowledge and association.
3. Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) equipment.
4. Grammar and spelling.
5. A wide variety of engineering, legal, tax, accounting, economic, and
insurance language.
6. Operation and maintenance of the stenographic machine to facilitate
verbatim reporting.
B. Ability to:
1. Adapt to changing situations and maintain a calm and even disposition
under pressure.
2. Report verbatim material related to Public Utilities Commission
hearings, including questions and answers colloquy, statements,
objections, and rulings on objections using CAT technology.
3. Complete work product in a timely manner to maintain proper workflow.
4. Scope CAT notes at a rate consistent with completion of a daily
transcript.
5. Research and verify medical, legal, and technical terminology cited
during proceedings.
6. Listen to testimony or dictation including that which is hard to
understand.
7. Work independently, take initiative, and follow through with projects that
have been started.
8. Work with others to complete assignments or special projects.
9. Communicate effectively.
10. Follow directions.
