1. Attend and participate in the interdisciplinary team huddles to keep up-to-date on scheduling changes and patient health status/conditions.
2. Order appropriate laboratory studies and other diagnostic testing (e.g., x-rays, image scans) to analyze cause of symptoms, confirm diagnosis, evaluate severity of condition, etc.
3. Coordinate and collaborate with primary care providers, mid-level providers, social workers, pharmacists, psychologists, etc., to plan or provide treatment for patients.
4. Diagnose patients' symptoms to determine the cause of illness/injury and prescribe medical treatment.
5. Document patient's clinical care to ensure accurate history is available to other authorized persons.
6. Educate and counsel patients about their diagnosis, condition, test results, treatment, and prognosis to keep them abreast of their health status.
7. Interview and examine patients to assess the nature of their symptoms, evaluate their health status, and determine the diagnosis.
8. Maintain security of work areas, materials, and reports to prevent theft and preserve confidential information.
9. Monitor patients’ condition, progress, and responses to treatment to reassess/modify clinical management plan and determine next steps of care.
10. Order medical interventions (e.g., medications, special diets, physical therapy) to treat patients and manage care.
11. Perform major and minor surgical operations and diagnostic procedures (e.g., incision and drainage, emergency endo tracheal intubation, biopsy, sutures) on patients using medical instruments to remove, repair, or improve functioning of diseased or injured body parts and systems.
12. Prepare diagnostic workups for patients transferred to acute care facilities to provide the oncoming health provider with all the information needed to continue care.
13. Prepare written documents (e.g., progress notes, chronos, correspondence, appeals, reports) to ensure detailed documentation of patients’ condition and treatment and provide information to others.
14. Provide clinical oversight to care team members providing care to high-risk patients to facilitate quality and continuity of care.
15. Provide medical care to low and high-risk patients to treat illnesses/injuries.
16. Refer patients to other health care providers, including psychiatric or psychological referrals, or health resources to provide continuity of care for special/unique conditions.
17. Review, analyze, and interpret medical charts, lab reports, consultant reports, and other medical documents to determine patients' general progress and next steps in care.
18. Schedule follow-up appointments with chronically ill patients to assess treatment progress.
19. Write prescriptions to provide patients with accessibility to appropriate treatment medications.
20. Administer medical interventions (e.g., medications, therapy, injections, sutures) to patients to treat, prevent, and/or manage illnesses, diseases, or injuries.
