1. Administer basic life support to patients and/or personnel.
2. Administer skin injections (e.g., intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and performed skin tests on patients.
3. Answer telephone calls from health care providers, offices, clinical personnel, and other hospitals to provide medical and/or mental health information on patients.
4. Change a patient's wound dressings.
5. Clean and sanitize treatment rooms and patient rooms (e.g., exam tables, medical instruments, clinics) to prevent the spread of bacteria and disease.
6. Communicate with patients and relevant medical providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses), both orally and in writing, to gather information.
7. Compose documents (e.g., emails, forms, progress notes) either by hand or electronically.
8. Dispose of contaminated supplies to prevent the spread of disease.
9. Escort patients to the treatment, examination, and/or appointment room.
10. Explain treatment plans, procedures, and other health care interventions, and instructions (e.g., diets, medications) to patients to ensure their understanding as per the direction of the medical provider (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses).
11. Interview a patient to determine their chief complaint, gather relevant medical history, confirm they are taking their medications, etc.
12. Maintain patient confidentiality and protected patient privacy in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
13. Measure a patient's vital signs (e.g., height, weight, blood pressure, respiration).
14. Observe and document changes in a patient's status (e.g., lab results, chief complaint, medication side effects) and notify the relevant medical provider (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses).
15. Operate various office equipment (e.g., copiers, scanners, computers, phones, printers).
16. Perform inventory and order supplies (e.g., medical, lab, office, equipment).
17. Practice universal precautions to maintain infection control.
18. Properly collect and label patient lab specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissue).
19. Provide concise verbal patient history (e.g., name, age, diagnoses, medications) to relevant medical providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses).
20. Provide reasonable accommodation and effective communication to patients with disabilities (e.g., speech impaired, vision impaired, hearing impaired) and to patients who's first language is not English.
21. Record occurrences (e.g., patient attendance at medical appointments, lab values) into an appropriate log and/or documentation system.
22. Schedule patient appointments with relevant medical providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses).
23. Set up medical laboratory equipment and supplies to assist relevant medical providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses) in performing procedures, tests, and/or examinations.
24. Transcribe verbal information from patients and relevant providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, nurses) to clearly and concisely summarize information.
25. Use and set up medical equipment [e.g., electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure monitors, syringes, stethoscopes].
