1. Allocate resources within the established budget to ensure appropriate staffing and supply levels to provide nursing care to patients.
2. Assess training needs to identify all mandatory training requirements, follow up with staff, and coordinate training schedules.
3. Attend meetings with various personnel to coordinate nursing services goals, ensure compliance with policies, improve operational performance, and identify areas for improvement.
4. Develop, revise, and/or implement nursing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and operational needs.
5. Direct, supervise, and monitor personnel to ensure regulatory compliance and resolve health care issues.
6. Ensure a clear line of communication with nursing staff, physicians, health care providers, management, and patients to share information, remain in compliance, and ensure adequate care to patients.
7. Evaluate emergency procedures to ensure they meet the needs of a hospital/facility.
8. Evaluate the performance and standards of nursing practices performed by nursing service personnel to ensure compliance and provide patients with the appropriate care.
9. Inspect nursing facilities to identify and resolve any compliance issues, deficiencies, and ensure compliance with license requirements and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
10. Interview and select candidates to fill vacancies and ensure the continuity and appropriateness of care.
11. Investigate controlled substance discrepancies, medication errors, and clinic supply errors to ensure they are identified, documented, and resolved.
12. Manage and oversee disciplinary issues and actions with assigned nursing staff to identify and resolve performance issues.
13. Plan for the staffing and operation of new health care programs prior to their operation to ensure compliance and appropriate patient care.
14. Practice common safety practices (e.g., universal precautions, protective equipment, cleaning equipment) to comply with established safety guidelines and personal safety practices.
15. Prepare written documents to provide analysis and information to others.
16. Promote Equal Employment Opportunity policies to ensure a diverse and non-discriminatory work environment.
17. Review audits and tracking logs to identify, document, and resolve compliance issues, etc.
18. Review shift reports to identify the types of patients (e.g., independent, bed bound, total care) in the unit to ensure adequate staffing.
19. Supervise the coverage of all vacancies occurring due to illness, injury, and/or turnover to maintain the continuity of care.
20. Update nursing duty statements and job descriptions to keep them current and applicable to operational needs.
