Tasks:
1: Ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of patient records to comply with legal mandates.
2: Evaluating the Psychiatric aspects of treatment programs to ensure quality of medical services and /or conformance with regulatory requirements.
3: Performing evaluations and/or making treatment recommendations for patients with difficult forms of psychiatric treatment.
4: Reviewing clinical patient records to assure adequacy and proper documentation.
5: Reviewing and providing input on hospital policies/programs to ensure compliance and consistency.
6: Supervises Psychiatrists in their activities with nursing, psychology, social work, rehab therapy, and/or other support staff.
7: Participating in meetings and/or committees to ensure proper treatment protocols and standards are maintained by staff.
8: Assisting in coordinating psychiatric activities for medical professional/clinical treatment staff.
9: Coordinating with Medical Director, Management, and/or staff on issues regarding the retention, movement, and/or release of patients.
10: Auditing psychiatrists and/or psychiatric nurse practitioners performance levels to ensure professional conduct is maintained.
11: Advising staff on appropriate treatment techniques for specific cases.
12: Communicating updates to staff on clinical issues regarding patient care and/or personnel issues.
13: Participating in teaching and/or administrative assignments to meet facility needs.
14: Examining and treating patients requiring difficult forms of psychiatric treatment.
15: Advising and/or coordinating with staff on medical treatments in the delivery of appropriate care.
16: Providing direct clinical services to patients to maintain medical staff privileges.
Knowledge, Skill, or Ability:
1: Knowledge of principles and methods of psychiatry, neurology, pharmacology, general medicine, and surgery.
2: Knowledge of medical psychiatric terminology to effectively provide a high level of care for patients.
3: Knowledge of the techniques in the care and treatment of mentally disabled/disordered individuals.
4: Knowledge of current developments in the field of psychiatry.
5: Knowledge of a supervisor’s role in the Equal Employment Opportunity Program to meet EEO objectives.
6: Skill in applying the principles and methods of psychiatry and general medicine.
7: Ability to understand various types of medications and their side effects to supervise the prescription of medication to patients.
8: Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality concerning personnel and/or medical files to ensure compliance with departmental policy.
9: Ability to analyze emergency situations and take effective courses of action.
10: Ability to read and comprehend medical materials to apply information and determine appropriate course of action.
11: Ability to maintain a sympathetic and objective understanding of the problems of the mentally ill.
12: Ability to show empathy and understanding of the problems of patients with mental illness, cognitive and physical disabilities, and the effects they have on facility staff.
13: Ability to communicate (oral and written) effectively with all health care professionals (including management).
14: Ability to interpret medical records, laboratory testing results, and diagnostic tests to supervise the treatment of psychiatric, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
15: Ability to create a positive work environment to maintain a high level of staff morale.
16: Ability to demonstrate leadership ability amongst patients, peers, and supervisors.
17: Ability to ensure staff/supervisees are assigned appropriate job duties and case load levels.
18: Ability to develop accurate, clear, and concise reports pertaining to patient behavior, progress, and incidents.
