Tasks:
1: Sending radiology images to the Radiologist for review of patient x-rays and composition of an official report.
2: Taking x-rays of various body structures to produce images for medical diagnostic (e.g., chest for an upper respiratory, abdomen for any obstructive issues, bone x-rays for fractures, dislocation etc.)
3: Providing protection from radiation using protective devices to shield patient’s radio sensitive organs (e.g., thyroid, and reproductive systems) in all exams.
4: Processing x-rays by downloading into a computerized Picture Archived Computer System (PAC’s) on every patient to make copies for the Radiologist to review.
5: Determining the most suitable anatomical patient posture and/or positions to ensure clarity of x-rays for film reading.
6: Sanitizing all radiographic equipment, instruments, and work surfaces after each appointment utilizing appropriate cleaning solutions.
7: Ensuring the safety of the patient during x-ray examinations by instructing and/or assessing the patient.
8: Set-up, clean, and care for radiology equipment and apparatus according to facility policies and procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
9: Scheduling a Physicist to check radiation output for safe levels to ensure appropriate radiation standards in accordance with Title 17 and State and federal guidelines.
10: Tracking the inspection, maintenance, and/or repair of all equipment for any licensing (e.g., State Board of Radiology, Joint Commission, etc.) review.
11: Scheduling preventative maintenance on all equipment to ensure equipment is clean and in proper working condition (e.g., wires are not loose, buttons working, bolts are tight etc.)
12: Maintaining clear, concise, and comprehensive records of all relevant information, including equipment and workload records, to ensure quality assurance according to facility policies and procedures.
13: Obtaining the Radiologist’s signature on the radiology report in order to disburse a copy to the unit and/or ordering physician.
14: Ensuring adequate inventory by storing and maintaining appropriate supplies (e.g., towels, pillowcases, gowns, films, processors, etc.).
15: Reconciling clinic calendar by tracking incomplete or completed appointments in order to re/schedule exams.
Knowledge, Skill, or Ability:
1: Knowledge of regional gross anatomy to identify areas of the human body.
2: Knowledge of radiologic equipment and techniques to obtain images.
3: Knowledge of standardized radiologic procedures to perform them efficiently and safely.
4: Knowledge of radiation precautions to ensure patient safety and prevent over exposure.
5: Knowledge of safety precautions for a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
6: Knowledge of the operation and care of modern radiologic equipment.
7: Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and standard protocol for keeping sensitive data confidential and secure.
8: Ability to effectively conduct radiologic examinations with patients to ensure efficiency and safety.
9: Ability to administer aid in emergency situations.
10: Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective actions.
11: Ability to follow directions.
12: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to provide accurate verbal instructions and directions to audience with varying levels of understanding.
13: Ability to prepare necessary equipment for processing images.
14: Ability to maintain and organize records of relevant materials to easily access and reference them upon request.
