Tasks:
1. Monitor interactions between patients/clients and nursing staff to maintain a therapeutic relationship boundary using visual observation, reported observations and one-on-one meetings, as required by facility policy.
2. Review and monitor content of all evaluations for nursing staff, including annual physical requirements, probationary reviews, and annual performance appraisals to ensure timely completion and accuracy, as required by facility.
3. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing services to maintain standards and mentor clinical competencies by performing administrative reviews and take corrective action to correct deficiencies under direction of manager/supervisor.
4. Monitor continuous educational needs of nursing staff to maintain job competencies using evaluations and training under direction of manager /supervisor.
5. Oversee nursing staff to ensure that established behavior modifications are implemented and treatment techniques are effective using visual observations, report review, and Interdisciplinary Team/Unit Treatment Team meetings.
6. Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of treatment programs for developmentally disabled, civil commitment, or mentally disordered offenders by addressing nursing staff competency and mentoring.
7. Oversee patient/client living areas to ensure they are clean and free of hazardous contraband by performing required routine inspections and visual observation through active participation in Environmental Inspection Process as required by facility.
8. Review unit Environment Inspection Audits to ensure plans of correction are followed by staff to correct deficiencies as needed.
9. Assist facility management in developing nursing staff policies to ensure compliance with facility guidelines and regulatory laws using meetings and training under the direction of managers and facility administrators.
10. Participate in facility and program committee by analyzing policies and procedures affecting patient/client services as required.
11. Assist the Coordinator of Nursing Services and/or the Clinical Administrator on hiring facility nursing staff to meet the proper personnel needs of department as required by facility.
12. Assist with administrative duties (e.g., time reporting, review of overtime, correspondence, budgeting, purchasing, etc.), using standard office equipment and one-on-one meetings as assigned.
13. Monitor internal/external patient/client escort is performed by licensed and trained staff to comply with transport policies and procedures using visual observation and document review as required by facility.
14. Observe and intervene in instances of disruptive or assaultive behavior to ensure safety and security of facility as needed.
15. Inspect facility to identify security breaches that could lead to forensic client, patient, or inmate escape as required.
16. Observe and intervene in forensic client, patient, or inmate behavior that may signal an impending escape attempt to ensure safety and security of facility as needed.
17. Escort forensic clients, patients, or inmates to other areas of the facility to ensure safety and security of the facility as needed.
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel management, including disciplinary processes and effective supervision in planning, organizing, and directing technical nursing services staff of a treatment program/department.
2. Knowledge of a supervisor’s role in the Equal Employment Opportunity Program (EEO) and processes available to meet departmental EEO objectives.
3. Knowledge of on-the-job Therapeutic Strategies and Intervention (TSI), Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), and Infectious Control Practices as required by facility.
4. Knowledge of policies and procedures of medicine and narcotic administration.
5. Knowledge of the legal aspects of patient care and documentation.
6. Knowledge of accreditations, licensure and regulatory standards.
7. Knowledge of principles of specialized treatment and training techniques as they relate to the developmentally disabled, civil commitment, mentally disordered offenders, or forensic patients.
8. Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility, treatment program, and unit/department management.
9. Knowledge of applicable bargaining unit contracts.
10. Knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques.
11. Knowledge and awareness of multicultural issues and their effect on the work environment.
12. Knowledge and familiarity with computer software and programs as required by facility and departmental needs.
13. Knowledge of proper spelling and grammar to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, concise, and free of errors.

25. Ability to assess, plan, and implement staff training to meet patient/client objectives.
26. Ability to track and maintain records on departmental software and develop clear and concise reports in a timely manner.
27. Ability to oversee and evaluate nursing care and treatment plans in order to reach measurable objectives.
