Components that are due with your application will be scored and will count toward your final examination result. Failure to submit these items may result in disqualification or elimination from the examination.
A final score of 70% must be attained to be placed on the eligible list.
Please Note: You will not receive your examination results instantaneously. Your results will be accessible through your CalCareers account three (3) to six (6) weeks after the applicable cutoff date. Please check your CalCareers account to ensure timely receipt of communications.
Applications received after the cut-off date, regardless of the submission method, will be held to the next cut-off period unless timeline proof of submission can be provided.
The Examination Team is not responsible for contacting candidates who fail to submit their required application materials with the Training and Experience Questionnaire examination as outlined on this bulletin. Please ensure application is complete with detailed job descriptions/tasks performed, employment beginning and ending date information, and hours worked per week. Failure to provide this information will disqualify your application.

In addition to evaluating the applicant's relative knowledge, skill and ability as demonstrated by quality and breadth of education/experience, emphasis in each test component will be on measuring competitively, relative to job demands, each applicant's:
Knowledge of:
1. Theories, objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship.
2. Standard reference materials.
3. Established techniques and practices for classifying and cataloging materials such as the Dewey decimal system and the Library of Congress system.
4. Reference interviewing techniques, standard search strategies, commonly used bibliographic information sources, and professional journals in the library field.
5. Computer systems search capabilities.
6. Library purposes, trends, and organizations.
7. Complex bibliography terminology.
8. Subject fields and where they are located within the California Government.
9. Programs of major libraries in California.
Ability to:
1. Apply professional knowledge to the practical problems of the job.
2. establish and maintain cooperative relationships with library users, coworkers, supervisors, and others contacted during the course of work.
3. Provide effective customer services.
4. Use computer programs, systems, and databases to perform professional library functions.
