Job Description and Duties

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is required by State law to certify systems for controlling gasoline vapor emissions from gasoline marketing operations and to develop test procedures for determining compliance with emission limits of industrial sources. The Vapor Recovery In Use Section has a vacancy for an Air Resources Engineer who will conduct vapor recovery and stationary source tests, determine if existing test procedures need to be updated, and assist local air districts and CARB divisions in reviewing test protocols and test reports for completeness and efficacy.  This position provides a mixture of office, shop, and field work.  Applicants must be willing to travel and be physically able to work in an industrial environment including exposure to fumes and heat, perform heavy lifting, climb and work at elevated heights, drive a large test truck, and handle heavy equipment and gaseous cylinders.  Applicants must possess a valid California driver's license and be willing to travel more than 25 percent of the time.  The successful candidate will be expected to work overtime, travel overnight, and alter their work schedule as necessary to accommodate the testing schedule.  In addition, this position will require the employee to pass a pre-placement physical examination as a condition of employment.
