Job Description and Duties

 This is a Permanent Intermittent position and may work at a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.  

The Enforcement Division’s Consumer Products Enforcement Section (CPES) has an opening for an enthusiastic Air Resources Technician II (ART II) to conduct a variety of activities related to development and advancement of air quality standards.  CPES is responsible for enforcing CARB regulations designed to improve air quality by reducing emissions generated by (1) non-compliant chemically formulated and aerosol coating products, such as aerosol paints, paint thinners, cleaning compounds, polishes, personal care products, lawn and garden products, detergents, disinfectants, sanitizers, automotive specialty products, and solvents, (2) non-compliant composite wood products, such as plywood, particle board, and medium-density fiberboard, and other products that are made from these materials, including decorative wall coverings, cabinetry, subflooring, shelving, household and office furniture, children’s toys, and recreational vehicle interior components, and (3) non-compliant indoor air cleaning devices.  We are seeking a motivated, resourceful, and qualified ART II to assist staff in the development and implementation of new air quality enforcement programs such as the Chemically Formulated Products Program, the Composite Wood Products Program, and the Indoor Air Cleaning Device Program.  The position also requires close interaction and teamwork with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including; scientists, engineers, operators as well as industry and environmental organizations.  

Under supervision of an Air Resources Supervisor I, the incumbent will assist staff in reviewing the more complex files on Chemically Formulated Products Program, the Composite Wood Products Program, and the Indoor Air Cleaning Device Program and enforcement regulations.  Gather, compute, analyze and compile data and records into searchable spreadsheets, regulation summaries and issue papers and present findings to management or lead-staff.  Using comprehensive knowledge of enforcement regulations and investigative process, assist technical staff by investigating complaints, tips, and leads concerning potentially non-compliant chemically formulated and aerosol coating products.

Defensive Driving Training is required.  Participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program and perform the following duties:  Attend off-site meetings, conferences, inspections, and field testing.  Travel is required.

Working Conditions
