Job Description and Duties

The Attorney III will be responsible for providing legal advice to the California Air Resoruces Board’s Human Resources Branch (HRB) regarding complex and sensitve personnel related and employment law issues for the approximately 1,700 CARB employees. The incumbent will be responsible for providing legal support and advice regarding employee discipline, labor arbitration, whistleblower protection, workplace violence, reasonable accomodation, and the Family and Medical Leave Act; representing the Department in complex administrative proceedings before other regulatory agencies; drafting and reviewing complex personnel actions; and providing legal support and advise on matters related to the Department’s functions, role, and responsiblites concerning complex Federal and State laws and regulations related to employement law in State Government.

Working Conditions

Occasional travel between CARB headquarters (both Sacramento and El Monte locations), other offices, and occasionally out of state, may be required. The incumbent must be available to work additional hours as necessary when business needs warrant.  The location of the Sacramento position is on the 23rd floor; therefore, the incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise building.
