Job Description and Duties

The successful candidate in this position will be required to use a variety of secretarial skills, including preparing a variety of legal documents. Under the general direction of the Chief Counsel, the Legal Secretary or Senior Legal Typist performs the full range of general legal secretarial duties for BCDC attorneys, provides complex clerical support for other BCDC sections, and provides back-up as needed to the other secretaries at BCDC.  The Legal Secretary or Senior Legal Typist types, formats, and files for administrative proceedings and coordinates and schedules legal support services with specific instruction when required.  Skill is required in document production using a variety of software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat and other electronic databases. The position requires a high level of independence, the exercise of good judgment in setting work priorities, good oral and written communication, accurate word processing and proofreading, successfully meeting deadlines, communicating effectively with members of BCDC staff, the Commission and the public, and understanding modern office methods and specific BCDC office policies and procedures.



Duties will be assigned commensurate with the level at which the position is filled.

Department Information

The award-winning San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) is a State of California government agency located in the City of San Francisco with regulatory and planning responsibilities over San Francisco Bay, the Suisun Marsh, salt ponds, and along the Bay Area’s nine-county shoreline. BCDC is guided in its actions by state and federal laws, policies, and regulations including: the McAteer-Petris Act, Suisun Marsh Preservation Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, San Francisco Bay Plan, Suisun Marsh Protection Plan and various special area plans. Through its laws and policies, BCDC oversees hundreds of miles of shoreline and helps facilitate the implementation of the San Francisco Bay Trail and the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail.

Benefits

This is a full-time, permanent position. The vacancy will be filled by one of the following   classifications:

  • Senior Legal Typist – Range A: $3,030 - $3,795/month

  • Senior Legal Typist – Range B: $3,388 - $4,236/month

  • Legal Secretary – Range A: $3,555 - $4,451/month

  • Legal Secretary – Range B: $3,733 - $4,675/month
