The CalSTRS Communications Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Staff Services Manager III, (Managerial), on the Communications and Content Strategy Team.
The Communications Division provides strategic communications, targeted messaging and CalSTRS benefits information through a variety of delivery channels focused on creating increased awareness among members, employers, employees, and various other stakeholders. Communications offers the following services to create clear, engaging communications: digital signage, webinars, writing and editing, graphic design, internal and external communications, media/press relations, external relations, publications, building signage, email newsletters, television/video services and broadcast, social media, and website content. Communications also regularly assesses the reputation and organizational risk environment pertaining to issues where CalSTRS has potential exposure to develop effective mitigation strategies and action plans.
Under general direction of the Director of Communications (CEA B), the Staff Services Manager lll (SSM lll) operates as the Communications and Content Strategy Manager and supports the development of strategic system-wide communications plans for CalSTRS. The SSM III is responsible for implementing and reporting on external communications and marketing strategies to support CalSTRS’ mission and communicate effectively with members, stakeholders, the investment industry, and the public. The incumbent oversees external communications across multiple channels including web and digital content, social media, photography, video and live streaming, print and digital publications, and written content for publication and speaking engagements.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Experience developing or leading strategic communications plans or projects using an integrated approach with multiple tactics across multiple channels.
- Experience in graphic design and/or video production or leading and reviewing the work of graphic designers and/or video producers.
- Experience in writing for public relations, marketing or communications programs, or experience leading and reviewing the work of writers.
- Knowledge of best practices for web and other digital communications, including accessibility standards.
- Knowledge of best practices in government or financial communications or public relations.
- Exhibits professional demeanor, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations.
- Ability to create a clear vision, set goals and expectations, and motivate at all levels.
Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 3 days per week.
