In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
The 12-month Limited Term/Full-Time Staff Psychiatrist (Safety) will be directed by the Medical Director who has delegated supervision of the Staff Psychiatrist in the following way:
A) Chief Psychiatrist – The Chief Psychiatrist exercises direct supervision over the assignment and clinical work of the Staff Psychiatrist, under the direction of the Medical Director.
B) Medical Staff – The Staff Psychiatrist is a member of the organized Medical Staff at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH) and is thus responsible to the Chief of Medical Staff for all activities which are within the scope of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations. The Staff Psychiatrist is accountable to the Chief Psychiatrist for time spent in Medical Staff-related activities. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
• Performs psychiatric evaluations
• Provides clinical leadership
• As primary provider of care, writes orders for admission, transfer, discharge, medications, restraints and seclusion, suicide precautions, etc., as indicated
• Meets at least monthly with each assigned patient
• Meets at least monthly with each assigned patient
• Evaluates and documents assaultive incidents and suicidal threats, attempts, and self–harm behaviors
• May be called upon to prepare court reports
• Communicates effectively in spoken and written language

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Meet the minimum requirements for the position at Staff Psychiatrist Exam Bulletin, OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners AND One year of experience in the practice of psychiatry or completion of one year of an approved residency in psychiatry.
