Job Description and Duties

OEHHA’s Office of External and Legislative Affairs is seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate to serve as OEHHA’s Proposition 65 Ombudsperson. Under the direct supervision of the Proposition 65 Implementation Program Chief (Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory)) the Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) will serve as OEHHA’s main liaison for interested parties that have questions or concerns about Proposition 65.

The primary responsibilities of the position range from performing technical outreach to businesses, nonprofits, and other interested parties on Proposition 65; responding to scientifically complex Proposition 65 inquiries; conducting research into the practical use of Proposition 65 warnings by businesses and consumers inform improvements in the law’s implementation; and developing proactive outreach campaigns.

Working Conditions

OEHHA has a hybrid work environment that includes work in an office setting and telework at home. Office work conducted in a cubicle in a downtown high-rise office building. Extensive computer use, which involves prolonged sitting, viewing of a monitor, and repetitive motion. Fieldwork required, including traveling to individual study participants’ homes to conduct exposure surveys. Frequent travel required for meetings with other State agencies, academic partners, and public meetings. Time-critical assignments.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Desirable Qualifications
