The Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) is the largest center with over 1,500 employees in 17 District Offices across all 58 California counties. CHCQ is responsible for ensuring health care facilities comply with state laws and regulations. In addition, CHCQ cooperates with CMS to ensure that facilities accepting Medicare and Medi-Cal (in California, Medicaid is referred to as Medi-Cal) payments meet federal requirements. CHCQ also oversees the certification of nurse assistants, home health aides, hemodialysis technicians, and the licensing of nursing home administrators.
The Public Policy & Prevention Division supports CHCQ through researching, analyzing, and communicating policies and requirements of the law to internal and external audiences to support safe, effective, and quality health care for all Caifornians. The Centralized Program Flex Unit reviews, analyzes, and research's requests for program flexibility submitted by health care facilities. This team also reviews Patient Needs and Worksforce Shortage Waivers submitted by Skilled Nursing Facilities.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities.
