HRD is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, customer service and detail-oriented Performance Management Consultant (Staff Services Manager I Specialist) to assist managers and supervisors in the appropriate and timely application of the progressive discipline process and addressing the most sensitive/complex concerns related to performance and conduct in the workplace.

The SSM I (Specialist), serves as a non-supervisory, highly skilled, organized, and experienced special consultant.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing guidance and expertise to CDPH managers and supervisors when handling sensitive/complex employee performance and conduct concerns, and administration of the state’s disciplinary process. We are seeking an individual that can both 1) guide on technical aspects of policy and discipline and 2) assist managers and supervisors to handle matters in a way that demonstrates trauma-informed principles (or similar employee engagement practices).

This position is part of the Performance & Policy Consultation Unit in HRD’s Strategic Talent Management and Development Branch (STMDB). The STMDB is dedicated to our most important asset - our people; through fostering an environment that is engaging and encourages development.
