Job Description and Duties

Under the administrative direction of the Regional Health Care Executive, CEA this position is the highest-ranking health care authority within a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation adult institution. Responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating 24-hour and 7-days a week operation of one or two institutions and delivery of a multi-functional health care system. This system features a full range of medical, mental health, dental, pharmacy and medication management, specialized care and clinic services, and allied health. Serves as the Department’s and Receiver’s principal advisor on the institution-specific application of health care policies and procedures.

This position is located at California State Prison, Corcoran in Corcoran, California.

CDCR and CCHCS strive to collaborate with the community to enhance public safety and promote successful community reintegration through education, treatment and active participation in rehabilitative and restorative justice programs. Incumbents establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within the department, other governmental agencies, health care partners, and communities.


This position is Limited-Term for 24 months and not 12 months as stated above, with a possibility of becoming permanent, in which the incumbent would serve a one-year probationary period.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
