Department of Developmental Services is a California state agency providing services and support to over 450,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), including cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, autism, epilepsy, and related conditions.
Operated by DDS, Canyon Springs (CS) is a 57,000 square foot community facility serving just over 50 residents in sunny Southern California, opened in 2000 as an alternative to larger developmental centers. CS provides residential services, treatment, and training for adults with I/DD.
Our person-centered approach focuses on empowering individuals to manage their lives through various opportunities such as behavioral supports, coping skills, life skills, vocational training, adult education, and community integration. We also support individuals transitioning from larger developmental centers to increased community access and integration.
At CS, residents live and work while undergoing focused training and treatment to gain control over impulsive and inappropriate behaviors. Our highly structured program helps improve personal conduct and abilities, preparing individuals for less restrictive living arrangements. As residents demonstrate progress, they are assisted in returning to their home communities or other suitable environments.
Residents at CS can participate in a variety of integrated activities in natural environments at home, at work, and in the community. These experiences are designed to enhance their skills and promote a healthy, happy, and productive life.
