Job Description and Duties

Would you like to support library workers' and Californians' continuing education and leadership development needs, and plan and implement statewide library programs and partnerships? Then this might be the job for you!

Under the general direction of the Library Development Services Assistant Bureau Chief, the Library Programs Consultant (Continuing Education) is responsible for planning and implementing the State Library’s statewide continuing education and leadership programs and partnerships, connecting library workers to continuing education and leadership opportunities, and implementing related programs, grants, and partnerships.

This is a Limited Term position which may be extended to 24 months.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the California State Library Telework policy. The California State Library is headquartered in downtown Sacramento. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

The mission of the California State Library is to empower the people of the nation's most diverse and populous state by:

The California State Library serves the people of California in several ways and is made up of the Administrative Services Bureau, the California Research Bureau, State Library Services, the Information Technology Bureau and Library Development Services.

 

These bureaus ensure that the California State Library is the central reference and research library for state government and the Legislature and provides non-partisan research to the Legislature and the Governor.  The California State Library collects, preserves, generates and disseminates information ranging from California's priceless historical items to today's online texts, and it advises, consults with, and provides technical assistance to California's public libraries, all while directing state and federal funds to support local public libraries and statewide library programs, and services.

The State Library is home to public reading rooms including Information Services, Government Publications, the Law Library, the Braille and Talking Book Library, and the California History Room. It also plays host to Night at the State Library, annual community events like Juneteenth, the Archives Crawl, Museum Day and exhibits you won’t find anywhere else!

Special Requirements

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.
