Job Description and Duties

We are seeking a Senior Data Policy Analyst to join the CalData team at ODI, a team filled with bright and empathetic data people. ODI works across all departments in the state, with data that touches all Californians. You will find that the problems and challenges we engage with require the heart as much as the mind.

As our Senior Data Policy Analyst, you will:

  • Lead major initiatives to develop and shape new data governance and analytics policies and standards and supporting guidance via an iterative and inclusive process.
  • Bridge policy and practice. You will be a crucial bridge between policy and implementation, collaborating and drawing on the experience of the CalData Data Services team, Advanced Analytics & Evaluation team, subject matter experts across the state, and experts outside the state.
  • You will also collaborate with state data teams via CalData’s data communities of practice to streamline implementation and ensure the policy or standard meets the needs of the data teams.
You will join a team of data and analytics engineering professionals supporting the Office of Data and Innovation (ODI). Read more about the CalData Division of ODI at https://innovation.ca.gov/who-we-are/caldata/.

This position provides telework opportunities in accordance with agency telework policies. ODI is currently operating in a hybrid work environment with staff reporting to the office 2 days a week to either Sacramento HQ or our Oakland Hub.

1. Please describe your experience (including number of years, in what role, and for what employer) engaging in data policy development and data governance programs. Highlight some examples and discuss the problem, your contribution and the approach, the result, and lessons learned.
2. What areas of data governance, management, or analytics do you think are most critical and why? What do you see as the role of policy and standards in those areas?
3. What does equity mean to you in terms of data governance and policy? How would you apply that in the context of creating policy and standards for CalData? If possible, provide an example from your experience.
4. What do you want us to know about you that you are not able to convey in the above 3 prompts?
