Job Description and Duties

CDSS is seeking one (1) bilingual Staff Services Analysts (SSA). Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I, the SSA performs work of average difficulty and complexity for analytical staff. Specifically, the SSA is responsible for the development and oversight of language and communication access services (e.g., American Sign Language interpretation, spoken language interpretation, and captioning) contracts; coordination of communication access requests submitted to the OOE; providing and facilitating equal language and communication access for people who are Deaf, and hard of hearing; and assist in providing information, training, and technical assistance related to communication access and accessibility.

This is a 12-month limited term position and may be extended to a maximum of 24-months and/or may become permanent based on operational needs.

Working Conditions

This position is a statewide recruitment, the incumbent will be headquartered in the county nearest their residence, including but not limited to the following counties: Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego. Candidate must be able to commute to the Sacramento Headquarters when needed.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies. The mission of the Civil Rights, Accessibility, and Resource Equity (CARE) Branch is to provide state level leadership and direction to ensure compliance with civil rights laws and to promote and foster policies and practices that ensure equitable access in alignment with the Department's equity goals. The Interpretation and Communication Access Section (ICAS) facilitates access to critical information and programs for people with disabilities, people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and people who speak a primary language other than English. The ICAS is responsible for the coordination and administration of communication access services (e.g., American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken language interpretation and captioning) contracts; providing and facilitating equal communication access for people who speak a primary language other than English and those who are Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened.

RID or NAD certification

3+ years of interpreting experience
