Job Description and Duties

The Electric Generation System Specialist I (EGSS I), supervised by the Energy Resilience Unit Supervisor, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and administer the California Energy Commission’s Community Energy Reliability and Resilience Investment (CERRI) Program. The EGSS I conducts intricate engineering, statistical, and economic analyses on energy systems and technologies, with a focus on advancing grid reliability and resilience. The EGSS I also leads projects and engages in community outreach and workforce development activities.

The Energy Research & Development Division (ERDD) deploys over $300 million annually to advance technology innovation and research supporting the state’s clean energy and climate goals, including in the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management.

The Sustainability and Resilience Branch invests in projects and applied research that increase community energy resilience and reliability, accelerate food production decarbonization, and support California's transition to a climate-resilient, equitable, and sustainable zero-carbon energy system. The Energy Resilience Unit leads efforts to deploy grid resilience and reliability projects that directly benefit communities and promote equity in energy storage, microgrids, demand flexibility, workforce development, and other technologies and strategies.

Training & Development Assignment may be considered for this position.

Minimum Qualifications (MQs): The MQs for this classification can be found at

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.

The California Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Specialist I in the Energy Research and Development Division/Sustainability and Resilience Branch/Energy Resilience Unit.
