Job Description and Duties

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.

The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for an Engineering Geologist in the Stormwater Compliance and Enforcement Unit. The
position is located at 320 West 4
th Street Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA, 90013, in the heart of Downtown right across from the subway and other public transportation.

Duties:

Under the close supervision of a Senior Water Resource Control Engineer and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous, professional, and provide timely responses to internal and external customers. The incumbent performs technical and professional office and field work within the Stormwater Compliance and Enforcement Unit. The incumbent is also expected to organize and manage assignments, follow through on commitments and schedules, use best professional/technical judgment, and solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments.

The incumbent is responsible to review and perform engineering geology analyses of technical information and environmental data, conduct investigations, perform inspections, and prepare technical reports and informal and formal enforcement actions for compliance with the California Water Code, Clean Water Act, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, and other Los Angeles Water Board Orders.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

  • Working knowledge with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Project, Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, Geographic Information System (GIS), other relevant office software and statistical applications and database management.
  • Knowledge in civil engineering related work, industrial processes, and commercially available environmental system (BAT, BCT, other) technology effectiveness evaluation.
  • Knowledge in evaluating and classifying industrial operations per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual.
