This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing independent, complex, technical and quantitative research, and statistical work necessary to accomplish the objectives and tasks of the Intakes & Enforcement Analytics Section related to licensing and certification regulatory requirements and enforcement activities. The Research Data Specialist II (RDS II) extracts data from various sources, interprets, summarizes, documents and creates analytic working files for use within the Section. Develops statistical measures and reports for dissemination to staff, stakeholders, and the public. Acts as a resource to staff regarding development and implementation of performance measures, benchmarks and the utilization of data management, analytical, and reporting software. Develops measures, analytic datasets, pivot tables, reports, and presentations. Apply knowledge and proficiency with SAS, Excel (including pivot tables.), PowerBi, Azure, Tableau, Toad™ Data Point (SQL), and/or Microsoft stack software (Server Integration Services [SSIS], SQL Server Reporting Services [SSRS], and SQL Management Studio) in performing assignments.
Although many assignments will be completed independently, others will require close, productive collaboration with fellow research staff, auditors, CHCQ management, health care facility personnel, contractors, other Departmental staff, and various other external parties.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Data Supervisor II.
A hybrid telework schedule may be available for this position, in accordance with CDPH’s Telework Policy and Procedures.
Telework Information
This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
