Job Description and Duties

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.

Looking for an exciting challenge in the drinking water field? The Division of Drinking Water is recruiting a Water Resource Control Engineer to work in the Field Operations Branch, Glendale Office. The Glendale Office is responsible for overseeing public drinking water systems (water utilities or purveyors) located in Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States, facing a variety of different challenges. Under the close supervision of a Senior Water Resource Control Engineer, the incumbent will perform a variety of engineering work related to public water systems. Duties will include on-site inspection activities including physical inspection of water sources, treatment plants, storage reservoirs, pump stations, and distribution facilities. The position will also be responsible for regulatory surveillance and compliance determination activities including the review of water quality monitoring records, system operational records, and water system operations and monitoring plans. The incumbent will review and prepare reports and permits for construction or modification of public water system sources, treatment plants, storage reservoirs, and distribution and collection facilities including checking engineering calculations, design drawings, and other engineering documents to assure that water purveyors comply with good engineering practices and legal requirements for supplying drinking water under the California Safe Drinking Water Act.

Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience working in design, construction, plan review, and report preparation related to public water systems and familiarity with drinking water laws, regulations, and policies. Effective communication skills (written and verbal), good interpersonal skills, ability to conduct field investigations, perform engineering evaluations, work independently, organize and set priorities on assignments, and meet deadlines. Work experience and proficiency with computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
