Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)-Applicants must also submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for this position.
• Failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may not be considered and may result in disqualification for the interview.
• Resumes and cover letters will not take the place of the SOQ.
• The SOQ must follow the number format, must respond to the criteria below, must not exceed two pages in length, and be typed in size 11-point Arial font.
1. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in effectively interacting with authority and peers, in both oral and written formats either professionally or academically; experience in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all customers and/or team members; and experience making public presentations.
2. Provide examples that demonstrate your experience in identifying problems and applying logical analysis to find information, understand causes, evaluate, select, and recommend the best possible course of action. Highlight how you systematically approach problems demonstrating your logic and sequential approach.
3. Provide examples that demonstrate your technical proficiency in using computer programs and experience in preparing and disseminating reports (both oral and written) or studies of a technical nature involving field data collection, investigative analysis, and final recommendations in transportation related projects in either an academic or professional environment.
4. Provide examples that demonstrate your ability to balance multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
Possession
of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased
vehicle.
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
