Job Description and Duties

Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) – Tribal Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist / Ocean Protection Council / California Natural Resources Agency  

The reporting location for this position is Sacramento, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Deputy Director. 
 

The Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is hiring a Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) who will act as the Tribal Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist to lead and foster tribal affairs and coastal community engagement related to state ocean and coastal programs in California.

The Tribal Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for facilitating collaborative and coordinated state agency efforts to consult with California Native American tribes and engage with coastal communities on priority topics impacting California’s coast and ocean, ensuring OPC programs reflect tribal and community needs. The incumbent will additionally support OPC’s Tribal Liaison on OPC’s broader tribal consultation and engagement efforts. Overall, the incumbent will be responsible for implementation of OPC’s mission and CNRA priorities on ocean and coastal matters.

Working Conditions

Flexible Work Schedule: This position is considered Remote-Centered, which means incumbent would telework 50% or more of the time within a work month from an alternate work location. The position incumbent can telework with a management approved telework agreement and schedule. OPC staff are required to work from CNRA headquarters located in Sacramento, CA a minimum of two days a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Department Information

The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) is a state cabinet-level agency in the government of California. Through its 40 departments, conservancies, boards, commissions, councils, and museums, the California Natural Resources Agency is responsible for protecting historical, natural, and cultural sites, monitoring and controlling state lands and waterways, and regulating fish and game use.

The current Secretary for the California Natural Resources is Wade Crowfoot and he serves as a member of Governor Gavin Newsom’s cabinet. As Secretary, Crowfoot oversees an agency of over 25,000 employees charged with protecting and managing California’s diverse resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
