We are looking for applicants who have engineering, water resources, modeling and climate change knowledge; we seek a candidate who can easily adapt to changing work priorities and multitask on a variety of complex engineering investigations, and one who exhibits leadership and teamwork skills.
The applicant should be proactive and possess good working knowledge of planning and implementing practices related to climate change adaptation for California’s water resources with an ability to lead staff tasks and priorities and advise the Department on policies and procedures.
The position requires knowledge and demonstrated understanding of hydrologic engineering systems and analysis, manipulation of large data sets, and complex problem-solving abilities. An understanding of climate modelling approaches, outputs, and applications is very beneficial. Specific skills that are desirable:
Working knowledge of hydrologic engineering analysis; broad knowledge of various hydrologic modelling approaches; flood control systems; water supply collection, transport, and distribution systems; water storage infrastructure planning, management, and operations; water supply planning and management; uncertainty and reliability principles as they affect engineered systems designed, built, or operated to protect the environment and the public health, welfare, and safety.
Working knowledge of climate change analysis procedures for water resources and communication and engagement related to climate change analysis and use of climate science. Experience with developing and implementing policy and procedures.
Experience with contract and/or grant management, budgeting, and tracking.
Experience participating or collaborating on project teams, with the ability to take a leadership role in multi-disciplinary projects and to lead engineering staff.
Operate a computer proficiently using software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to effectively draft reports and correspondence. Deliver management briefings and public presentations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a team/matrix environment. Able to conduct outreach to stakeholders, working with external agencies, presentation skills, and communication between Interagency and other partners.
