Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Special Advisor, the Office Technician (OT) provides support for the staff of the Office of the California Surgeon General (OSG). The OT performs a variety of the most difficult clerical duties to support the administrative functions within the OSG, as well as the CA Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS). The OT is expected to consistently demonstrate a high degree of initiative, good judgement, independence, and follow-through in performing assigned tasks. In addition, the OT is expected to have experience using standard Microsoft programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and others) to prepare and finalize documents; handle incoming and outgoing mail; maintain general procedures and file system.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies.

Department Information

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) oversees twelve departments and five offices that provide a range of health care services, social services, mental health services, alcohol and drug services, income assistance, and public health services to Californians from all walks of life. More than 33,000 people work for departments in CHHS at state headquarters in Sacramento, regional offices throughout the state, state institutions and residential facilities serving the mentally ill and people with developmental disabilities.
