Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Branch Chief within the District 11 Division of Planning and Local Assistance, the incumbent, an Associate Transportation Planner, is an interdisciplinary team member at full journey person level. Incumbent works independently to perform difficult and complex planning work to plan, develop, organize, and direct activities which integrate various social, economic, environmental, transportation, and land use factors to support implementation of a balanced, multimodal State transportation program. The incumbent leads in the development and implementation of Project Initiation Documents (PIDs) and associated workload reporting tools, data management practices and PID Program functions. The incumbent also assists in the development of the State Highway Operation Protection Program (SHOPP) 5-year plan and related activities. Some assignments may be given by the Office Chief (PPM), and may include assisting with other Transportation Planning efforts. This may include but not limited to, regional planning, multimodal system planning, community planning, state planning, freight planning, active transportation, health, climate change, air quality, program project planning, Native American consultation, modeling, geospatial data analysis, and economics

Work is accomplished in a variety of settings. While at the base of operation, the incumbent works in a typical florescent-lighted, climate-controlled, office environment in a multi-story state office building. The incumbent must operate usual office equipment. On occasion, the incumbent may need to travel to other locations to attend meetings, make presentations, etc., in different offices, conference and convention facilities, and the like. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State owned or leased vehicle.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) - Applicants are required to submit an SOQ. 1. What experience or skills do you have that make you a good fit for a role in transportation planning? Provide examples of your knowledge, skills and experience with urban/regional transportation systems, planning process and principles of transportation planning.

2. Describe your experience with effectively communicating and collaborating with various groups of different professional levels, conflicting perspectives, and diverse backgrounds. What were some of the challenges, how did you respond, and what was the outcome?

3. What is your experience with reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness according to continuously changing policies. How do you utilize resources to make sound recommendations?

4. Provide an example of a project, class, or task where you collected and analyzed data, and presented results both in writing and orally. What was your role, and how did you apply your technical skills in the process (e.g. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), AutoCAD, Excel, Adobe, Tableau, ArcGIS)?
