Job Description and Duties

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Research Data Specialist I with experience comparing risk mitigation and modeling information, experience on pre-disaster mitigation analysis.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Commissioner, Climate and Sustainability Branch, the Research Data Specialist I (RDS I) position will report to the Deputy Commissioner, and will focus on developing data analysis approaches, comparing risk mitigation and modeling information, and prioritizing policies that reduce climate risks, including those related to wildfire, extreme heat, and flooding events. 

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Working Conditions

  • You must be able to work in a high-rise building.
  • Move up to 25lbs. for meeting set-up and delivery of office supplies.
  • Occasional travel may be required within and/or outside the state of California via private or public transportation (i. e., automobile, airplane, etc.). 
  • Eligible for telework in accordance with CDIs telework policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.
