Job Description and Duties

The incumbent works under the direction of the Information Technology Manager I, Chief, Richmond Operations Services Section. The Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is responsible for infrastructure support of the Richmond Laboratory Campus (RLC) at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).  The ITS I independently directs installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and enhancement of Richmond Campus Server systems.  The ITS I provides technical expertise in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring maintenance and operations of application systems and their security for laboratory program. The incumbent plans, develops, and implements technological solutions for servers, networks, virtual hosting environments that are essential to the mission of the organization.  

The ITS I serves as the secondary  point-of-contact for all Richmond Campus infrastructure and application systems. The ITS I consults with and provides guidance to information technology (IT) and program staff for IT network infrastructure administration workloads, including technical requirements, development, building, and deploying network components. The ITS I monitors, tunes and troubleshoots networks for optimal performance and system availability.  The ITS I provides networking expertise to support, secure and optimize RLC network infrastructure. The incumbent provides second level support to CDPH enterprise network services operations including, but not limited to, firewalls, core, distribution and access switches, network monitoring tools, intrusion detection and prevention systems at the RLC Network.  

The ITS I perform duties in the System Engineering domain.

“Upon appointment to this position in the Contra Costa County, employees shall receive a 5 percent pay differential. If an employee transfers out of an eligible location or classification the differential shall be rescinded.”

Working Conditions

Telework Information:

 

This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

 

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
