Job Description and Duties

STATE PARK INTERPRETER II/ CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT/ INTERPRETATION & EDUCATION/COLUMBIA STATE HISTORIC PARK

Columbia State Historic Park is seeking an experienced park interpreter to serve as the park’s interpretative program lead. The state park is home to one of the best preserved Gold Rush era towns in California with dozens of historic buildings that are accessible to park visitors. Assigned responsibilities of the position will include focused development of the parks living history program, oversight of living history and museum based exhibits, lead coordination of the 100+ volunteer program, coordination of multiple 4th grade school programs, and organization of weekend programs and special events.


The position will work under the direction of the State Park Interpreter III and will regularly work 
alongside cultural, ranger, concession, and maintenance staff to meet park goals and objectives.


The reporting location for this position is Columbia State Historic Park in Columbia, CA located 1.5 
hours north of Yosemite NP.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed in both an indoor office environment at a computer workstation and outside in various weather conditions.

  1. Transfer Eligibility – Must have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).

 

  1. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).

 

In some special circumstances, candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications for the position, but who do not have one of the types of eligibility listed above, may be hired. However, this is rare, and the preferred method of appointment is through eligibility as described above.
