Job Description and Duties

If this is a limited term position, it may be extended up to 24 months and/or become permanent. 

If this is a part-time or intermittent position, the time base may be increased up to full time.

Under the general supervision of the Program Representative (PR) III, the Program Representative I enforces the laws and regulations governing auto repair and smog check and independently investigates consumer complaints.  The PR I performs the full range of duties, as specified in the Bureau of Automotive Repair's (BAR) Enforcement Policies and Procedures Manual.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting, with artificial light and temperature control.  Daily access to and use of a personal computer and telephone is essential.  Stationary position requirements in the office are consistent with office work.  In addition, the incumbent will spend approximately 75% of their time per week in the field, which includes remaining in a stationary position, driving and ambulating.  In a normal work shift, an incumbent will frequently be required to use hand manipulations and body movements.  Occasionally, an incumbent will be required to maneuver around, underneath and/or over obstacles in the process of investigations.  The incumbent is required to travel throughout an assigned geographical area by various methods of transportation.

The Bureau of Automotive Repair's mission is to protect and serve California consumers by ensuring a fair and competitive automotive repair marketplace and administering a model motor vehicle emissions reduction program.
