Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Staff Services Manager I (Supervisor), the incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical accounting functions for the Accounting Office following the State Administrative Manual (SAM), Government Code, Bargaining Unit agreements, and the State Controller’s Office (SCO) rules and regulations. The Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) is also responsible for assisting with the more challenging and complex technical budget and accounting work associated with the development and management of the department’s annual budget and other related assignments for the CRD fiscal services unit. A comprehensive knowledge of the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) and California Automated Travel Expense Reimbursement System (CalATERS) is necessary to effectively perform the duties of this position. The incumbent must be able to manage a workload and cope with changing priorities.

This position requires excellent written communication skills and Microsoft Excel experience. The incumbent is expected to consistently exercise a high degree of initiative, responsibility, and independence in performing a heavy workload and meet short deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.


This position a limited-term full-time position for 12 months, with the possibility of being extended for an additional 12 months, or may become permanent.

    Department Information

    The Civil Rights Department (CRD or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. CRD's mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.

     

    The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State departments and local governments. 

    The CRD receives, investigates conciliates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints in its five offices throughout California. CRD litigates individual, class, group and systemic cases in all California jurisdictions, including state and federal courts. It leads education and outreach efforts to stakeholders and the public, and has an active regulatory and legislative program.

    Telework Opportunity

    The California Civil Rights Department supports hybrid work schedules for employees who can perform their essential functions remotely, as operationally allowed. Travel expenses from your home to your assigned headquarters location is considered a normal commute and are not reimbursable.

    This position is hybrid and will require scheduled in-office days to be established with  your supervisor in accordance with Department policy.
