The mission of the Transition Age Youth Policy Unit is to provide support for transition age youth in foster care and young adults who were formerly in foster care. The unit oversees Extended Foster Care, Transitional Housing programs, the Chafee Independent Living Program, the Chafee Education and Training Voucher Program, and the National Youth in Transition Database. The unit provides technical assistance to youth and young adults, county child welfare and probation departments, Tribal child welfare agencies, and various stakeholders. The AGPA/SSA will be responsible for researching and preparing detailed analysis of proposed legislative bills in consultation with the office of legislation and other internal partners. Other responsibilities include contracts management, regulations development, and other policy-related activities.
