Job Description and Duties

The Information Technology Associate (IT Associate) position is in the Client Services Unit and provides support for Department of Finance staff. The IT Associate supports Windows and Mac operating systems, O365 products, hosted VoIP services, mobile devices, peripherals, and automated office systems. The incumbent researches, analyzes, and provides solutions to resolve hardware- and software-related issues. The incumbent must maintain documentation related to change management, IT processes and procedures, hardware and software inventory, as well as log help desk calls and resolutions into the help desk tracking system. The incumbent gains and maintains cooperative working relationships at all levels; maintains regular, consistent, and predictable attendance; exercises good judgment, initiative, and creativity. The incumbent may be required to lift IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
The IT Associate position is eligible to telework, which is contingent upon operational needs and scheduling. The incumbent may be required to work overtime on short notice during peak work periods.

Special Requirements

These positions are located in Sacramento. Finance operates under a hybrid telework model. As of July 1, 2025, Finance employees will be required to work in the office a minimum of 4 days a week. The hybrid policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required at management's discretion.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Knowledge of and experience with Windows 10, Windows 11, Mac OSX, iOS
  • Proficient with hardware support (desktops, laptops, MacBook’s, iPhones, and printers)
  • Experience supporting the use of Microsoft Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, and other cloud-based environments
  • Knowledge of and experience with troubleshooting network and Wi-Fi connectivity issues
  • Experience supporting Video Conferencing equipment – Zoom Rooms – Teams Rooms
  • Strong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize, and adapt to changing assignments and priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret and clarify technical documentation, and IT policies
  • Familiarity with providing support for remote workers
