Job Description and Duties

STATE PARK INTERPRETER I (LIMITED TERM - FULLTIME) DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / BRANNAN ISLAND SRA, LOCKE, CA.

The reporting location is at Brannan Island State Recreation Area (SRA), 17645 CA-160, Rio Vista and will provide programs at Brannan Island SRA and Locke Boarding House and Delta Meadows, in Locke.

Diablo Range District, Contra-Solano-Delta Sector is hiring a State Park Interpreter I (LT) to join the interpretive team to help develop, coordinate, publicize and present high quality interpretive programs, publications, exhibits, and projects for the Delta Sector units. This position is responsible for coordinating efforts and activities that effectively communicate the importance of environmental stewardship, appreciation for historic and cultural resources and responsible recreation. Duties will include coordinating and leading school groups and community groups and launching a PORTS program in the sector. The work schedule may be flexible, depending on program needs.

This position is a 12-month Limited-Term position that may be extended and/or become permanent.    

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Working Conditions

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May be required to work in adversarial situations. Outdoor work is common. Typical work activities involve lifting 35 pounds and frequent and prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

Eligibility Information

To be appointed you must satisfy one of the following requirements:

  1. List Eligibility – Successfully complete the civil service exam for State Park Interpreter I. Click here for more information on how to apply for the exam. NOTE: Please refer to the exam bulletin for the frequency of administration of this exam.
  1. Transfer Eligibility – Must have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).
  1. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).

In some special circumstances, candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications for the position, but who do not have one of the types of eligibility listed above, may be hired. However, this is rare, and the  preferred method of appointment is through eligibility as described above.
