Position is for a 10 month school year with eligibility for an additional 2 months to be paid by State Special School Benefits through Unemployment Insurance.
Under general direction, the Shift Supervisor oversees counselor staff responsible for providing residential care services to students outside of school hours. This position works closely with subordinate staff to plan and implement recreational, academic support, and social activities that address both individual student needs and overall program goals. The Shift Supervisor reports directly to the Staff Services Manager I, Assistant Director of Student Life.
Essential Functions:
Ensure the general supervision, care, and safety of an assigned group of students while in the cottage, and oversee the daily operation of the program as it relates to student life. Remain on duty during emergency situations.
Provide leadership and direction to cottage counselors, night attendants, and other staff in developing, implementing, and monitoring student development programs that promote social, physical, intellectual, communication, and emotional growth.
Develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate the Student Life program assigned to staff.
Address disciplinary issues involving both students and staff, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution.
Disseminate up-to-date residential life policies and the staff handbook to all personnel, ensuring clarity of staff expectations.
Evaluate subordinate staff performance, schedule regular performance review meetings, and provide constructive feedback.
Ensure all personnel-related documentation is accurate and submitted by established deadlines.
Provide back-up support for counselors during student activities or behavior management, and serve as night shift supervisor over Night Attendants.
Complete and communicate incident reports, parent notifications, permission slips, and any relevant documentation regarding student care.
Schedule and lead regular meetings with cottage staff within the assigned area, as well as inter-cottage and cottage-wide meetings as needed.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with supervisors from other departments to address concerns, coordinate support, and resolve conflicts.
