Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing program and administrative support to strengthen prevention and control of chronic diseases.

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Staff Service Manager I, Chief of the Business Management Unit. The Staff Services Analyst (SSA) provides administrative and program support to the Branch including processing patient record requests, serving as the Attendance Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and Asset Manager for CDSRB. The SSA also provides facility support, processes procurements such as Purchase and Services Orders and provides backup support to the CDSRB Office Support Technician.

Telework Information:

 

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

 

Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee’s designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

The Chronic Disease Surveillance and Research Branch (CDSRB) is committed to serving the public by collecting statewide data about cancer, Parkinson's disease, and chronic disease risk factors; making chronic disease surveillance data available to public health practitioners and qualified researchers; conducting chronic disease surveillance; and communicating surveillance results to the public. In addition, the branch provides leadership for, and coordination of, California's statewide comprehensive cancer control efforts based on the concept that people and organizations working together to identify problems and develop solutions will lead to better use of limited resources and generation of new resources through new partnerships. CDSRB implements these activities by directing, managing, and monitoring the state-mandated Ken Maddy California Cancer Registry (CCR), California's Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCP), the Richard Paul Hemann California Parkinson's Disease Registry (CPDR), and the California Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (CBRFSS).
