Job Description and Duties

The Office Technician (Typing) will be directed by the Program Director in Program VII at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  • Attend various meetings to take, type, and distribute minutes.
  • Develop and maintain a system for filing forms and documents including electronic filing.
  • Maintain a tracking system for information that is included in Performance for Probationary Employee and annual staff Performance Appraisal.
  • Complete and process various documents related to the operational function of the program, such as and not limited to: work orders and storeroom requests.
  • Maintain and update all program office manuals on an ongoing basis.
  • Utilize hospital computer systems for entering data. Develop reports as requested by supervisor. Retrieve and route reports.
  • Receive, screen, and route program related correspondence (telephone calls, emails, paperwork).

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Office Technician (Typing) Exam Bulletin, OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: MUST meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250, have current employment with the State of California in the same classification with permanent or probationary status or in a classification that is substantially the same with permanent or probationary status, OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
You MUST submit a valid typing certificate with a minimum speed of 40 NET WPM that meets CalHR Requirements. Typing tests for certification MUST be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. Candidates that are current State employees in a typing classification DO NOT need to submit a typing certificate.
