Job Description and Duties

The California Achieving a Better Life Experience Act Board (CalABLE) is the state’s savings program for the disability community. CalABLE is looking for a Student Assistant to advance its mission and best support Californians with disabilities.

The Student Assistant will play a hands-on role in helping individuals and families build financial security and greater independence. The Student Assistant will develop marketing materials, research trends and demographics, collaborate with partner organizations, and perform other critical tasks to communicate with people with disabilities. Throughout this process, the Student Assistant will build their professional experience and become more knowledgeable about communications, human services, personal finance, public policy, state service, and more.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for disability rights and supporting people with disabilities. Personal, professional, or academic experience with disability issues is a plus, but not required. This is a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in public service and disability advocacy while making a meaningful difference.

Department Information

CalABLE is California’s savings and investment program for people with disabilities. With CalABLE, eligible individuals with disabilities to save and grow their wealth in low-cost, tax-advantaged accounts. Earnings in the account are tax free as long as the account is used for qualified expenses. Best of all, CalABLE account holders can save while protecting their access to public benefits. Some benefits programs like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) have strict limits to how much money an individual can have saved, but CalABLE accounts are exempt from these standard limits.
