Job Description and Duties

Would you like to be part of an effort to recover an endangered species? Do you have a passion for working outdoors and with wildlife?

If you're looking to gain hands-on field experience in wildlife management, this role offers the opportunity to monitor mule deer and black bear populations in Southern California’s Transverse and Peninsular Ranges. Using radio telemetry and GPS, you’ll track animals in rugged terrain, assess survival and reproduction, and support aerial surveys. You’ll assist with wildlife captures and collect genetic and biological samples to evaluate population health, help manage habitat improvement projects, and contribute to necropsy work through data recording, sample handling, and workspace sanitation.

Additional responsibilities include supporting the annual hunting program, engaging with hunters, gathering data from harvested animals, maintaining field equipment and records, performing GIS-based analysis, reviewing scientific literature, and assisting in report preparation—all within a collaborative and safety-focused research environment.

The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.
