Under the direction of a Program and Project Supervisor in the Reliability and Emergency Unit within the Energy Assessments Division (EAD), the incumbent independently performs at the full journeyperson level varied, complex, technical, and analytical work on the topics relating to energy resource planning and analysis, and emergency planning and response for California’s energy systems to support electric and natural gas reliability, and petroleum products availability during emergency situations.
Analysis performed by the incumbent supports the Lead Energy Emergency Coordinator, and provides decision–makers, and the public with timely, useful information and objective analyses of emergency planning and response as it relates to California’s energy systems. The incumbent serves as the CEC’s Assistant Coordinator for California Emergency Support Function 12, Energy & Utilities. The incumbent utilizes a background in energy resource planning and analysis, and emergency planning and response for electric, petroleum, and natural gas system infrastructure and provides consultative services on the feasibility, impact, or potential of a variety of operations, projects, or proposals.
These assignments require knowledge, expertise, and skill at the journeyperson level of electric and natural gas system reliability and petroleum systems emergency planning. The incumbent works with the Lead Energy Emergency Coordinator and management to implement strategy, and with staff to develop work products and information that are accurate, objective, timely, and useful in meeting the CEC’s mission.
The EAD assesses California’s electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends to provide information to the state’s decision makers and the public. These assessments inform the development, and implementation, of energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals.
The Reliability Analysis Branch has primary responsibility for assessing California’s electricity supply and system, electricity reliability, identifying trends for planning and decision making, energy emergency planning and response, as well as identifying and analyzing decarbonization strategies as California transitions toward a clean energy future.
