Job Description and Duties

METROPOLITAN STATE HOSPITAL-Located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County.

DSH-Metropolitan, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for Psychiatric Technician Instructor, Permanent/Fulltime. Working Title: Psychiatric Technician Instructor - Nursing Education Department.

 

Under the direction of the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN)/Director of Staff Development (DSD), the Psychiatric Technician Instructor will provide training and supervision to Psychiatric Technician Assistants and Psychiatric Technician Students in a training course designed to prepare them as Psychiatric Technicians.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to training all disciplines in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions (TSI), conducting non-medical/surgical nursing classes, providing hospital orientation for affiliated schools and colleges, conducting CPR classes, and conducting emergency drills on the patient care units.

Opened in 1916, DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is in the vibrant community of Norwalk,15 miles east of Los Angeles. DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds. Training & Development (T&D) Information

T&D assignments are temporary assignments of up to 24 months made for the purposes of providing career advancement opportunities to prepare permanent civil service employees for future promotions into new occupational fields.

Applicants interested in applying as a Training and Development Assignment must have permanent status in the present classification. An employee currently in a Limited Term position is not eligible for a T&D assignment. The employee may, but is not required to, satisfy the minimum qualifications of the T&D classification; except, the employee shall possess any licensure, certificate, or similar credential that is a component of the minimum qualifications. Successful T&D candidates may transition to a permanent appointment, if eligible at the end of the T&D assignment.
