The Public Health Medical Administrator (PHMA) I serves as the Trauma Mitigation and Response Chief. This position provides trauma-informed, mitigation and response medical leadership, directs early detection systems, and supports California’s population-level resilience through trauma-mitigation and trauma-responsive engagement, emergency planning and response strategies. The PHMA I is responsible for the planning, administration, organization, and direction setting for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Department’s Trauma Mitigation and Response Plan. The incumbent will actively engage in complex problem solving, professional learning, collaboration, relationship building, and will interface with internal and external stakeholders, including the OPP, CDPH Directorate, CDPH Centers/Divisions/Offices, State Agencies, Local Health Jurisdictions, Tribal Health Organizations, Grantors, Consultants, and Contractors. The incumbent will lead CDPH’s trauma responsive culture transformation, operationalize the Trauma Mitigation and Response strategic plan and build capacity to create a sustainable framework and structure in supporting CDPH in becoming trauma responsive and a healing environment.
The PHMA I will work independently, within a team, and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that OPP can provide trauma-responsive professional development programs and services at the department, regional, state-wide, and at the leadership levels; create a critical incident response model; and incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion in addition to trauma informed principles in the revisions of policies, procedures and guidelines.
The incumbent works under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director and programmatic direction of the Assistant Deputy Director for the OPP.
This position is headquartered in Downtown Sacramento and may be eligible for telework under CDPH's telework policy. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

Telework Information
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee’s designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
