Job Description and Duties

This position is eligible to telework up to three (3) days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. This is subject to change based on operational need and/or future return to office orders.  The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager (SSM) II, the SSM I Specialist serves as a highly skilled personnel management expert in all aspects of classification and certifications and other special classification projects by providing high-level consultation on sensitive and confidential personnel issues. The SSM I Specialist performs the most difficult or sensitive work providing personnel services to the contracted client agencies, boards, and commissions in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and Department of Human Resources (CalHR), State Personnel Board (SPB), and DGS policies and procedures. This position promotes and is accountable for customer satisfaction and quality service and provides recommendations and implements changes that promote innovative solutions to meet customer needs.


This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.

Special Requirements
